We welcome children from the age of 9 years to 18 years into Meridian's Junior Club, however they must be supervised by a parent/guardian at all times.
Meridian abide by the Archery GB 'Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy and Procedures' and have an appointed Safeguarding Officer. Please see the Contact Us page for details of how to contact the Safeguarding Officer.
All adult and junior members and parents of juniors are required to adhere to the relevant AGB Codes of Conduct.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Archery is among the activities included in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Physical section. The duration of participation can range from a minimum of 3 months to a maximum of 18 months, contingent upon the level of the award and prior accomplishments. The primary stipulation is that juniors must dedicate themselves to regular activities, averaging at least an hour per week during this period.
Participants are required to establish their own goals tailored to their proficiency level in archery. They are free to set objectives that align with their individual aspirations, whether it involves achieving FITA Beginners Awards (refer to details below) or partaking in competitive tournaments.
For comprehensive information, please refer to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award guidelines website.
Handicaps and Classifications
Junior archers have the chance to achieve indoor and outdoor handicaps and classifications by meeting the required standards during their shooting sessions. Prior to reaching this level, they are encouraged to strive towards earning the FITA Beginners Awards.
FITA Beginners Awards
The FITA Feather Awards are designated for children under 12 years of age as well as certain novice archers with disabilities, while the FITA Arrow Awards are intended for children aged 12 and above. These incremental awards assess three primary elements:
Evaluation of scores
Assessment of skills
Evaluation of knowledge and know-how
The aim is to acknowledge and encourage beginner archers while tracking their advancement in skill proficiency. See the beginners award programme
