Course Information

The governing body of archery, ArcheryGB, stipulates that anyone taking up the sport of archery must complete a "Beginners course" before being allowed to join a club. This course is aimed at teaching the basic skills of archery with particular emphasis on safety.

Meridian offers Beginners Courses throughout the year. Typically conducted over a weekend during the Spring and Autumn seasons. Each course comprises a recommended total of 12 hours of instruction and is led by our experienced coaches. All necessary equipment is supplied for participants.

Please be aware that the minimum age for attendance on our Beginners Courses is 9 years old. Additionally, the club mandates that all juniors under the age of 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent throughout the course. The parent is welcome to join as a participant but remains responsible for their child's supervision at all times.

Saturday

10:00:  Registration/Welcome/Equipment/Safety

11:00:  Demonstration of shooting movements and coffee break

11:15:  Shooting

12:30:  Lunch

13:15:  Shooting

14:00:  Other forms of archery and shooting etiquette

14:15:  Break for coffee

14:45:  Shooting

15:30:  Equipment takedown


Sunday

10:00:  Equipment assembly

10:30:  Shooting

11:30:  Break for coffee

11:45:  Rounds, scoring and handicaps

12:00:  Shooting

13:00:  Lunch

13:45:  Types of Bows and Organisations in archery

14:00:  "Meridian Beginners Challenge"

15:15:  Equipment takedown

15:30:  Debrief and final questions

16:00:  End of course


At the end of the course you will be presented with a certificate of completion which will be accepted at most archery clubs when you apply for membership.


If you become a member of Meridian after your beginner's course, you have the option of a free, six-week loan of the equipment you have been using during the course, until you are ready to purchase your own.  A deposit of £50 is required for the equipment loan, refundable once you return the complete kit in good condition.
